Kids say the darndest things!

You can imagine that, as a teacher, I witness children saying/writing/doing hilarious things every day :). Here's a selection from the past 2 school days:

1) I revealed to some of my kids today that I don't have a TV. One little girl, 8-years old, looked up at me with an open mouth and immediately declared that I simply MUST buy one. After encouraging me to get my boyfriend to buy me one (lol), she finally responded to my question of why I needed one with, "You need a TV to be cultured!"

2) I was lining up a year 6 class to go out for their lunch break when I noticed one boy standing next to me. When I asked him why he was beside me and not in the line, his reply was, "I like the way you smell". Needless to say, I prodded him immediately into line!

3) A Year 4 girl began her story with, "A long time ago, before there was MSN..."

4) I was standing near the doorway of my classroom today supervising clean-up before the end of the school day when suddenly a boy ran inside, hugged me around the waist, then dashed out again. I still have no idea who it was! :)

5) In a piece of writing that details what a fictional character is going to get for her mother for her birthday present, a year 4 boy wrote, "Tina bought her mum a sheep." After showing it to me, I pointed out that the story said that Tina didn't have much money in her piggy bank and thus would hardly be likely to be able to buy a sheep. While marking today, I found the following hastily appended to the boy's story: "...which she bought after borrowing a million pounds from her rich older brother."

5) Hanging out before the end of the school day with my year 5 class on Friday, I had the following conversation with the elder son of the Deputy Head (who I suspect might have a bit of a crush on me):

[A child is walking around in a fur-trimmed jacket complaining of being hot until I point out she'd be a lot cooler if she took the jacket off.]

Thomas: Oh dear. A lot of them don't have much common sense, do they? [Bear in mind that Thomas is 10-years old and also in this class!]
Me: [stifling a laugh and shaking my head] No, I'm afraid not.
Thomas: When do you think they'll gain some?
Me: I don't know, what do you think?
Thomas: [after a long pause, during which he is obviously thinking intently] Probably never!

There are tons more, but I think that's enough for now :). If there's one thing I can say about teaching, it's that it's entertaining! lol.
